About
Lívia Lopes joined Shepard Law in April 2024 and supports the firm’s attorneys through every stage of a criminal case. She schedules depositions, tracks deadlines, assists with filings, and keeps clients informed about what is happening in their case and what comes next.
She brings a legal education and several years of law firm experience to the role, along with a calm and organized approach that clients notice most at the points where a case feels uncertain.
Portuguese, English and Spanish
Lívia is trilingual. Portuguese is her first language, she is fluent in English, and she speaks Spanish, which she studied during her time in the United States.
Clients who would rather discuss their case in Portuguese or Spanish can ask for Lívia directly. Being able to talk through a criminal charge in your own language changes how much of it you take in, and it is not something most firms in this region can offer.
Background
Lívia is from Brazil, where she completed a five-year law degree at Faculdade de Direito de Franca, graduating in 2018.
In 2019 she moved to Chicago on a cultural exchange program and spent three years in the United States. She returned to Brazil in 2022 and began working with American law firms, handling family law and personal injury matters for firms in Arkansas and Arizona before joining Shepard Law.
That combination — a full legal education, several years inside United States law firms, and three languages — is unusual in a support role, and it is why she is often the person a client ends up speaking to most.

Outside the Office
Lívia moved to Chicago with a straightforward goal — become fluent in English and build a life outside her first language and her comfort zone. She stayed three years and counts it as the period that shaped her most. It is also part of why she is the person at the firm who understands what it is like to work through something difficult in a language that is not your own.
